Sock Sublimation Using a Jig: Step-by-Step Guide
Materials Needed
- Sublimation socks
- MDF sock jig
- Heat press
- Sublimation design (solid rectangle recommended)
- Heat-resistant tape
- Protective paper
Step 1: Prepare the Sock
Slide the sock onto the MDF jig.
Align it so the sock lies flat and centered.
Make sure the edges are smooth and the sock is fully stretched across the jig.
Step 2: Position the Design
Place the sock (on the jig) onto your heat press.
Secure your sublimation design on top using heat-resistant tape.
A solid rectangle design helps ensure full coverage and avoids uneven edges.
Step 3: Press the First Side
Cover with protective paper to prevent ink bleed.
Press according to your substrate’s recommended time and temperature.
Carefully remove the sock—it will be hot.
Step 4: Adjust for the Second Side
Before pressing the second side, shift the sock slightly to the right on the jig.
This exposes the side of the sock that was previously pressed flat against the jig.
By revealing this edge, you can now press over the white line that would otherwise remain unprinted.
Reposition your design and tape it down securely.
Step 5: Press the Second Side
Cover with protective paper again.
Press, then carefully remove.
Allow the sock to cool before handling or packaging.
Pro Tips
- Pre-press socks to remove moisture and flatten fibers.
- Use jigs that match your sock size for consistent results.
- Slight shifting before the second press ensures full edge coverage and prevents white stripes.
