How to Use Eco Sealants
SPONGE METHOD
Make sure your Gypsogem Eco Resin piece is fully cured before sealing. Follow these steps for a smooth, water-resistant finish:
- Prepare the Surface
- Ensure your resin creation is completely dry and free of dust.
- Dampen the Sponge
- Dip a 5 to 6cm size sponge into clean water and squeeze out the excess.
- Lightly wipe down your resin piece to prep the surface.
- Apply Eco UV Seal
- Dip the damp sponge into the Eco UV Seal, squeeze again to remove excess.
- Quickly and gently rub a thin, even layer over the surface.
- Avoid letting the sealant pool or dry mid-application—less is more for an even finish.
- Layer as Desired
- Let the first layer dry fully before continuing.
- If your gypsum creation has a base, apply Eco UV Seal in sections. You won’t be able to rest the sealed surface on a raw, unsealed area until it’s fully dry—so work in stages to ensure a smooth, even finish
- The initial coat may appear more matte—gloss increases with each additional layer.
- Repeat the process until you achieve your desired finish
Note: Applying Eco UV Seal with a dry brush or sponge may cause streaks, similar to traditional varnishes. The damp sponge method helps ensure a smooth, consistent result.
DIPPING METHOD
For larger pieces or when you want an ultra‑even finish, Eco UV Seal works beautifully as a dip‑coat.
To use this method:
- Mix 50% Eco Sealant (Matte or UV) with 50% distilled water in a large bucket.
- Dip your item into the mixture, then wipe off the excess using a microfiber cloth.
- Allow the piece to dry fully before dipping again.
- Repeat the process until you achieve the exact finish you want.
What finish does this give? The dipping method provides beautifully even, streak‑free coverage, making it ideal for larger surfaces or pieces where brush marks would normally show. With the UV formula, each additional dip builds up a stronger glossy effect, giving your piece a smooth, polished shine. For the matte formula, layering creates a soft matte finish that gradually develops into a gentle semi‑gloss as you build up coats.
Why distilled water? Distilled water contains no bacteria or impurities, which keeps your diluted mixture clean and reusable. Just be careful not to contaminate the bucket with leftover foils, pigments, or colourants still on the item — this ensures your solution stays clear and effective for multiple dips.
Storage Tips:
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Always close the cap tightly after use to preserve freshness.
