Sublimation Guidelines for 20oz Tumblers
Note: All ovens and mug/tumbler presses vary. Always test and adjust based on your equipment’s heat distribution, pressure, and timing.
Tumbler or Mug Press Method
Quick Method:
- Set to 190°C
- Press for 90 seconds, then rotate and press for 30 seconds
Rotating Method:
- Set to 185°C
- Press for 50 seconds, rotate to 9:00
- Press for 50 seconds, rotate to 3:00
- Press for 25 seconds, rotate to 6:00
- Press for 25 seconds, rotate to 12:00
Tip: Mug presses are shorter, so rotate based on your design layout to ensure full coverage.
Oven Method (Thermo Fan Oven)
Important: Ovens vary like baking a cake—test first. Top and bottom grills run hotter, which may cause fading if overbaked.
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 180°C for 15 minutes
- Place tray in the middle or just below
- Line tray with silicone or baking paper
- Secure print tightly to tumbler
- Shrink film prep:
- Slit down one side
- Trim to size if too long
- Double tape the join with 2 rows of 2cm heat tape
- Use a heat gun to shrink film:
- Hold 10–15cm away
- Wave like a hair dryer
- Avoid creases or bubbles
- Place tumbler upside down in oven
- Bake for 6 minutes at 180°C
- Remove immediately and peel off while hot
- Use gloves for safety
Extra Tips:
- Slitting and taping the shrink film is easier than wrapping over the top
- Never let shrink film touch a raw tumbler—use silicone paper to protect it
- For straight tumblers, silicone paper isn’t needed unless using older curved styles
