Sublimation Instructions for MDF Keychains
Single-Sided (S/S)
- Pressing Settings: 190°C for 90 seconds, light to medium pressure
- Preparation:
- Carefully remove the protective film before pressing to avoid damaging the coating.
- Cover the substrate with silicone paper to protect it from heat and dirt during pressing.
- Tape Tips:
- Avoid direct contact between heat tape and the MDF or printed design, as it may leave marks.
- To prevent tape marks, place silicone paper over both the design and MDF before pressing.
Double-Sided (D/S)
- Pressing Settings: 200°C for 50 seconds per side, light to medium pressure
- Preparation:
- Remove the protective film with care to preserve the coating.
- Use silicone paper to shield the substrate from heat and debris.
- Tape Tips:
- Prevent tape marks by ensuring heat tape does not touch the MDF or print directly.
- Use silicone paper as a barrier over the design and MDF.
- Important:
After pressing the first side, allow the keychain to cool completely before pressing the second side.
Care Notes
- If the MDF coating bubbles, immediately place the item under two reams of photo paper or another smooth, heavy, texture-free surface to flatten it.
- MDF is a durable material but prone to chipping and cracking due to its composition of compressed wood fibers and resin.
Note for 5mm Single-Sided (S/S) MDF with Melamine Backing:
This version includes two protective layers that must be removed before pressing:
- Brown protective sheet on the black melamine backing — peel this off carefully before pressing.
- White plastic film on the white sublimation surface — this is the side you’ll press your design onto, so be sure to remove the film completely to ensure proper transfer.
Handle both layers gently to avoid scratching or damaging the coated surfaces.
