DIRECTIONS
- Apply your stencil design using adhesive vinyl or stencil vinyl on the wood surface of your choice
- Bush a thin layer of the gel over the stencil design using a silicone brush, ensuring you are coating the wood. Less is more (as you will be wiping the excess off)
- Wipe any excess off, there must be no globs left behind
- Using a heat gun (1800w +) to start burning the gel on LOW heat, holding about 10 to 15cm away from the wood and move around in waving motion. Note the adhesive vinyl can start to bubble if to close.
- When it starts to turn light yellow/golden, stop blowing and remove the adhesive vinyl
- Repeat step 4, it will start to burn much darker, stop blowing when you have reached the desired effect
Note Wood burning gel works best on smooth, unfinished, and untreated wood surfaces.
For optimal results, the wood should be:
- Sanded smooth to allow even application and crisp stencil edges
- Uncoated—no varnish, sealant, or oil, as these can interfere with the burn
- Light-colored woods like pine, birch, maple, or bamboo tend to show the burn marks more clearly
- Dry and clean, free from dust or residue
